Second Life Helmets
give your old helmet a second life
(and maybe)
give someone the rest of theirs

If you've been riding a while, you've probably got an old helmet or two sitting around.
That helmet was once your pride and joy, and it lived an exciting life travelling around on your head enjoying the magic of twisty roads...
Now it's languishing on a dusty shelf and it's bored off its head!
This old and loyal friend yearns to be out on the road seeing the world.
So we'd like to offer your helmet a second life, protecting someone in Timor Leste.
Why Timor Leste?
The East Timorese fought by our side during WW2. Many Aussie diggers owed their lives to them.
A bunch of us recently did a tour of Timor Leste with www.dilidirtbike.com. It was awesome. Timor Leste is a beautiful and wild.
It's people have had to go through stuff most Aussies can't imagine but they're still cheerful and friendly and tough, but they're really poor.
Why Helmets?
People ride scooters and motorbikes everywhere, but they're badly maintained and the roads are dodgy as hell.
The traffic is chaotic and there's very little safety culture. If they have a helmet at all it's a cheap POS that doesn't do the job.
During our trip we saw a double fatality. A scooter pulled out directly into the path of two young guys wearing poorly fitted, cheap open face helmets that did almost nothing to protect them. Those two guys would probably be alive if they had been wearing a good helmets... like any of the dozen helmets our group had between us, sitting on shelves in our cupboards and workshops.
Australia has had legal standards for motorcycle helmets since 1974, so almost any Aussie helmet will be better than what most people in Timor Leste have access to.
So we all decided to donate our old helmets, and we'd like you to join us. We'll ship them to Timor Leste and our mates over there will fit them to riders and teach them some basic safety stuff that will make everyone safer.
We're also donating bike maintenance tools and public pump stands to help make the bikes safer.
Donating a helmet could be one of the most important things you ever do in your life.
